CONNECTING TO YOUR CONSOLE:

You must synchronise the controller to your console. Hold the synch button down on the console faceplate (small circle next to memory card flap #2) until green lights rotate, then hold synch button on controller (the small switch between the shoulder buttons) unti the green lights rotate. They should both flash simultaneously once connected, and it should only take a few seconds, usually immediately.
