JTAG Mod - XBOX 360 Homebrew Mod

The upgrade process is fairly technical and involves temporarily soldering a cable to the motherboard, and permanently installing 2 diodes. We will preform a full NAND backup first for all consoles and we will store it here at Modz, as well as place a copy onto your hard drive (HDD1:/NAND BACKUP/nand.bin)

UPDATES: Its not a good idea to let any game do an update to your console, you must either have the latest XBR/FreeBoot update or delete the $SystemUpdate folder from the game files on each game that wants to update. Otherwise the update will overwrite the hack and the console will not work.

As a precaution for your JTAG protection, we can also solder bridge a special point on the underside of the motherboard which will prevent any updates being able to blow the eFuses, which is vital for JTAG. The solder bridging is not essential, but you can add it to the upgrade by selecting it from the drop down box below, it will add +$22.50 to the total.

The JTAG upgrade involves writing a piece of software (XBR or FreeBoot) onto the existing NAND (memory) chips inside your 360, and this allows unofficial software to run on the console, which gives us the power to utilise all the 360's capabilities as we wish. Storing games onto hard drive has many advantages, never having to insert a disc into the dodgy drive trays, no noise, less heat generation, faster access, more reliable and robust, fast game switching, and alot more.

One of the coolest homebrew apps is NXE2GOD, which removes the need to have the game disc in the drive when you want to play it. This will let you store the original game away safely so it does not get damaged, and will save the life of your DVD drive and console. Here's a YouTube video of how this works.

Another very useful and popular homebrew app is FreeStyle Dashboard, which gives you access to all your Xbox 360 games from any USB device. It searches all devices for Games, homebrew, Xbox 1 games and Emulators and presents them in a cool new menu system. It has many features like a File Manager to copy, delete, create folder, rename any files from any device such as the 360 hard drive, a USB stick, or any other attached USB hard drive or device. Games can be transferred from PC to USB stick and then to the console, or vice versa, or by using the built in FTP server, send the files over from your PC over a network cable, straight onto your 360 hard drive!



Alot more is possible with JTAG'd consoles, and with the release of more and more homebrew applications, alot more exciting things are going to be possible with your console, and its easy to do.

Before you get too excited about this new upgrade, you must know that not all 360's are capable of taking the mod. Microsoft released an update in mid 2009 to block this vunerability, so if you have updated from a game disc or Xbox Live since then, your console may not be JTAG-able.

To check if your console can take the JTAG hack, go to your Xbox 360 Console Settings, then System Info.

The current latest version is 2.0.9199.0 (as of May 2010)

If your dashboard/kernel version is 2.0.8495.0 or higher, You CANNOT JTAG hack your console.

If your kernel version is 2.0.7371.0 or lower, you will most likely be in luck, and your console can have the JTAG hack installed. There is another check that is required, but this can only be done by reading the NAND image and checking the CB values. If your console is manufactured after June 2009, it is most likely not exploitable because of the CB value (even if you have a exploitable kernel version). If we find this CB value is non-exploitable, we will return your console in its original state and refund your full payment minus $25+courier.

This mod can easily be detected by Microsoft, so don't be surprised if the console is banned when you connect to Xbox Live, this is not meant to be used with Xbox Live, ever!
